Overview
CODGuard is a Shopify app that reduces fake and high-risk cash-on-delivery (COD) orders for Indian D2C brands. It combines four building blocks: OTP verification, RTO risk scoring, a COD rules engine, and customer notifications. Everything runs natively inside Shopify — no theme code required for the core flow.
Getting started
Install CODGuard from the Shopify App Store and approve the requested permissions. Then connect an SMS provider, enable OTP verification, and set your COD rules. For a guided walkthrough, see the setup tutorial.

- Connect MSG91 or Twilio in Settings → Messaging
- Enable OTP verification
- Configure COD rules and risk thresholds
- Place a test order, then go live
OTP verification
When enabled, customers confirm a one-time password sent to their phone before a COD order is placed. This filters out fake numbers and bot orders while staying frictionless for genuine buyers.
- Apply OTP to all COD orders or only those matching your rules
- Customize the OTP message, code length, and retry limits
- Resend and cooldown controls prevent abuse
RTO risk scoring
Every COD order is scored in real time for return-to-origin risk using signals such as pincode delivery history, cart value, payment method, and customer behaviour. Use the score to decide what happens next.
- Low risk — confirm automatically
- Medium risk — flag for review or require OTP
- High risk — block COD or offer prepaid instead
COD rules engine
Rules let you control exactly when COD is offered. Combine conditions to match your catalog and shipping reality.
- By cart value (minimum / maximum order amount)
- By pincode or serviceable area
- By product, collection, or customer tag
- By risk score threshold
Each rule can confirm, block, require OTP, or trigger a prepaid discount nudge.
SMS providers
CODGuard sends OTP and notifications through your own provider account, so you control sender identity and cost. Supported providers:
- MSG91 — add your Auth Key, Sender ID, and OTP template ID
- Twilio — add your Account SID, Auth Token, and sending number
Always send a test message to your own phone after connecting a provider to confirm delivery and sender ID approval.
Notifications
Automate customer messaging over WhatsApp and SMS to reduce support load and improve the post-purchase experience.

Billing
CODGuard Pro is ₹999/month for up to 500 COD orders per month, with a 14-day free trial. Billing is processed through Shopify's managed billing — no card details are stored by CODGuard. You can cancel or uninstall anytime from your Shopify admin; billing stops at the end of the current cycle. See Terms of Service for details.
Data & privacy
CODGuard processes only the data needed to verify orders and score risk, and never sells data. We honour Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks — customers/data_request, customers/redact, and shop/redact — and delete or anonymize store data after uninstall. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Troubleshooting
OTP messages aren't arriving
Confirm your provider credentials are correct, your sender ID and template are approved, and your provider account has balance. Send a test OTP from Settings → Messaging.
Too many orders are being blocked
Loosen your risk threshold or scope rules to specific pincodes or cart values. Consider a prepaid nudge instead of a hard block.
Verification didn't apply to an order
Check that the order matched an active rule and that OTP verification is enabled for that condition. Review the order in your dashboard to see which rule evaluated.
